Try driving in Uptown at noon, people!

As the title of the post suggests, we are self- acknowledged idiots who keep on going to Damansara Uptown for our lunch. Difficult parking? Check. Suicidal drivers? Check. Expensive hipster restaurants? Check.

So, we went to Damansara Uptown today and decided to park and pay at the multi- level parking rather than circle the damn block 10 times to find free parking. We went to a restaurant called The Good Batch, although S kept on referring to it as the Good Catch, which totally makes more sense right?

It had a nice and cosy ambience, albeit a tad generic in its design. But, we are not interior designers so what do we know? We had major problem with the menu though. We are very simple- minded folks. Our jobs are demanding so we prefer simpler things outside of work.... like literal menu! Please do not expect us to expand our small and barely- functioning abstract thinking to interpret what the menu says. There were not even pictures to help us. May be they thought the pictures were too common and would have interfered with the distressed- paper vintage design. Ugh, hipsters.

The price of the food is also on the exorbitant side. But it is not their fault. If you stare at the pretty restaurant from outside also you can guess what their food would cost like. So, besides not being interior designers we are apparently not millionaires either.

To make up for the unhelpful menu, the staff were excellent in explaining it to us and making recommendations. The service was efficient and courteous.  S had the Parisian (just because your turkey ham sandwich was made of brioche you had to name it Parisian?), R had the chicken & pancakes while N and R had the Norwegian. Ok, this is totally annoying okay naming food after a nationality or stereotyping the country's food. Not everyone thinks of salmon when you say Norway. And other salmons from other countries might be offended if you start to suggest that they are the exclusive rights of Norway (sorry other Atlantic and South Pacific countries).

The Norwegian consisted of a pair of toasts topped with poached eggs, smoked salmon and hollondaise sauce with a side of salad. N & J gave the food 5/10

The Parisian. It was basically a 2 layered sandwich made out of brioche with slices of turkey ham in between. The brioche were thinly spread with Bechemel sauce. S honestly expected a more cheesy taste (they did promise Gruyere and Parmesan!) but turned out more creamy than cheesy. The sandwich was topped with pretty looking sunny side up eggs and a side of lightly dressed salad. S gave it a 5/10 because it was basically 3 slices of brioche with 2 slices of turkey ham and spread with mayo.

Lastly R had the chicken and pancakes. He quietly ate the food (like critic quiet!) and said the fried chicken pieces were underseasoned. He initially gave it a 7/10 but bowed down to self- inflicted peer pressure and revised it to 5/10 after we gave our rating.

Overall, we decided to give the environment 6/10 because it looked like any other pricey chic restaurants. We gave the service a 7/10 because they were helpful and efficient in taking our orders, delivering our meals and preparing the bill. Food was generally 5/10 with portion being the plus point while the price being the negative point. Total price? RM 120, and we did not even order their specialty coffee, just plain water.

Here is the address if you are interested:

  2. RM 120 for 4 meals without drinks i.e. approx RM30 per main meal ( which are mainly tiny sandwiches) , i'd probably can get better ones elsewhere. Thanks for the review!
